Westfield Special Census – Starting Mid-August
We’re counting every resident to ensure Westfield receives the resources it deserves.
Why Now?
Mayor Scott Willis says updated numbers could bring $6–8 million in state funding for roads, infrastructure, and community amenities. Our 2020 census showed 50,000 residents; today, we estimate closer to 65,000.
Accurate data also supports local business growth, like attracting new restaurants by increasing available liquor licenses.
How It Works
- In mid-August, you’ll receive a notice with instructions to complete the census questionnaire.
- Respond promptly to avoid door-to-door follow-ups in September.
- Your quick response helps Westfield secure funding and opportunities for our growing community.

Special Census Timeline:
- August 8: Mailing #1
- August 14: Mailing #2
- August 21: Mailing #3
- September 10: Internet Self-Response Period Ends
- September 30: Field Representatives begin going door-to-door
What to Do
Your mailer includes a link and code. Visit the link, enter the code, and answer a few questions, like how many people live in your home. Only one person per household needs to complete it.
Why You’ll Get Multiple Mailers
The U.S. Census Bureau will send reminders on Aug. 8, 14, 21, and Sept. 2. They can’t see who has responded, so everyone keeps getting mailers. If you’ve already completed it, just ignore the extras.
Why Some Won’t Get a Mailer
New neighborhoods or multi-family units may be missing from the Census Bureau’s list. If you don’t get a mailer, field reps will visit starting in September to collect your information in person.
If You Don’t Respond
A field rep with an ID badge will visit your home. If you’re not there, they’ll leave a note with a phone number so you can call in your details.
Why It Matters
The Special Census updates Westfield’s population count, which determines how much state funding we receive—potentially millions for roads, public safety, and infrastructure.

Westfield Police Department’s Youth Leadership and Development Academy
When: Monday, July 7th, to Friday, July 11th, 2025
Time: 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm

The Westfield Police Department and Citizens Academy Alumni are hosting a free summer academy focused on youth leadership and development, for teen girls and boys:
This camp is FREE, and dinner will be provided. From 4-6 pm each camp day, youth will learn from guest speakers about topics like:
- Effective communication
- Leadership skills
- Personal finance
- Interviewing tips/mock interviews
The second half of each camp day, from 6 pm to 8 pm, will include:
- Dinner
- Discovering police department-related topics/activities such as using the intoxicated driver glasses & learning the effects of this, social media safety, what to do if you’re in an accident or traffic stop, etc.
The goal of this camp/academy is to support youth in developing skill sets that will help them thrive in their daily life & also prepare them for job-seeking and learning more about the Westfield Police Department.
If your child is interested in attending, please download the application, consent, and liability release forms. Complete the application, sign the release, and email both documents back to Lieutenant Charles Hollowell (chollowell@westfield.in.gov)
The deadline to apply is Monday, June 30, 2025.
